Who can attend?
Programs are open to high school and college-aged youth. We encourage all race/ ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations, etc. to apply. No prior skills are required, come as you are--regardless of whether you're new to organizing or have been doing it for several years.
I'm a parent/professor/etc. and want to be able to help my child/student with his/her work. Can I attend with them?
No, sorry, these programs are for youth (high school and college-aged).
I can't attend the program closest to me due to schedule conflict, can I attend another program?
Yes, you can attend another program, though we encourage you to attend the closest possible program to you to cut down on carbon emissions.
I registered, but now can't attend, what should I do?
First, is there another program that you can attend instead? We can swap your registration from one program to another. If not, please let your directors know that you can no longer attend (and cc trainings [at] ssc.org). Depending on how much lead time you can give us, if you have already paid tuition, we will refund part or all of your tuition (see REFUND POLICY)

I can't afford the cost of the program, what can I do?
First, we encourage you to use our SPROG fundraising guide to raise the money you need to attend. There are a ton of great ideas there. Second, if even after using the Fundraising Guide you still need help, you can apply for a Scholarship.
How do I apply for a scholarship?
You can apply here. Please note that we have limited funds available; we strongly encourage you to use the fundraising guide first. Secondly, we will not make any scholarship decisions until May 15th. Recipients will be notified within a week of that date.
Can I apply for a travel scholarship?
Yes, we do have limited travel assistance available, however, we strongly encourage you to use the fundraising guide first. Second, we will only offer travel to the nearest available program and you are traveling by the cheapest feasible means. See guidelines in application.
I can't attend the program closest to me. Am I eligible for a travel scholarship to another program?
Yes, however, we strongly encourage you to use the fundraising guide first.
What is Building Bridges to the Outdoors?
Building Bridges to the Outdoors is a program in the Sierra Club whose goal is to support youth from underrepresented communities having an outdoor experience. BBTO has generously sponsored the programs in CA, NM, and PR; as a result those programs do not have tuition.

What sort of supervision is there at the programs?
Each program has a team comprised of 9 program staff who are volunteer that run the program. These are highly experienced individuals who have received extensive training. Additionally, each program has at least one full-time SSC staff member on site.
What does the agenda of Sprog look like?
Each program varies somewhat, but they all cover the same basic grassroots organizing and leadership skill-sets. The weeks are very well planned out and packed full of great experiences including trainings, guest speakers, and team-building activities. The days are long, but full of fun.
