Get Trained

The Sierra Student Coalition's youth-run trainings are nationally renowned, award-winning programs. The SSC's trainings are one of the most comprehensive grassroots skills training programs for high school and college-aged youth.

We offer week-long, in-person trainings during the summer (Sprogs), conduct phone trainings by request during each semester, and integrate skills trainings into state, regional and national conferences (i.e. Power Shift '09).

The SSC Trainings Committee is comprised of high school and college aged youth who plan, develop and implement our training programs – if you’re interested, get involved!

Testimonials
  • "Attending Sprog in Louisiana was the most profound and influential experience of my life. Upon returning to Washington, DC, I felt strong, smart, and creative; more importantly, I was empowered to create change in my personal life and my surrounding community." Marie Stratton, LA Sprog '07
  • "Through Sprog, I was introduced to the SSC and not only shown a clear avenue for expressing my passion, but also a solid support group of peers that I felt, for the first time in my life, truly understood me. Sprog introduced me to the kind of activist work that I want to continue doing for the rest of my life, and equipped me with the tools to successfully do that." Kelsea Norris, LA Sprog '07
  • "Using what I learned through [this] training, I was able to come back to campus and give others the same inspiration I received to empower them and help them initiate change." Jess Wycoff, NH Sprog '07
  • "I met the most wonderful people, in the most wonderful places, and they showed me how to use my passion and power to make a real difference."
    Anna Pierce, OR Sprog '04
  • “This summer's SPROG was not only an educational experience but an extremely motivational one. Attending a SPROG is one of the best things you can do to catapult the climate movement forward.” Morgan Goodwin, NH Sprog '07
  • "If it were not for Sprogs I would not be organizing. The tools and friends I attained at Sprog have carried me through every trial I have faced as a grassroots organizer." Nathan Jones, Trainer, WA Sprog '07
  • "When I arrived, I was just a rising high school junior who had been intrigued by "An Inconvenient Truth." When I left, I was a new leader of the student environmental movement who had been educated, trained, and befriended by the very best of the SSC." Dominique Hazzard, PA Sprog '06
  • "I never learned more in my life in one week than the week that I spent at Illinois SPROG. It wasn't the kind of training that you come home from asking "Now what?", but rather the kind that I still think about every day. I apply the tools I learned about organizing, leading, and being a part of a group to every part of my life, not just my environmental activism." Hannah Wade, IL Sprog
